// Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

Endodontics is the dental specialty focused on treating disorders of the internal tooth tissues (the dental pulp). These issues can arise from deep cavities, infections, trauma, or cracked teeth. The primary goals are to eliminate bacteria, relieve pain, and save the natural tooth so it can continue to function.
The most common procedure is Root Canal Treatment, which serves as a crucial alternative to tooth extraction.
• Deep, sharp, or throbbing toothache, especially when biting down.
• Abnormal or persistent tooth sensitivity that doesn't go away.
• Tooth discoloration (the tooth noticeably darkens).
• Swollen gums, pus, or a pimple-like bump on the gums near the tooth.
• Recurrent pain in a tooth that has already undergone dental treatment.
These symptoms are often signs of an infection deep inside the dental pulp. Left untreated, the infection can spread into the surrounding jawbone.
The entire process requires careful precision to ensure the infection is completely cleared and the tooth's structure is reinforced.

Diagnosis and Imaging
The endodontist takes a digital X-ray or a Dental CT Scan to evaluate the shape of the root canals and determine the extent of the infection in the surrounding bone.
- 02 -
Accessing the Pulp Chamber
After numbing the area with local anesthesia, the dentist creates a small opening in the crown of the tooth to gain access to the diseased pulp.
- 03 -
Cleaning and Shaping the Canals
The infected and damaged tissue is carefully removed. The root canals are then thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and shaped using specialized, precise dental instruments.
- 04 -
Filling the Root Canals
Once clean and dried, the hollow canals are sealed and packed tightly with a biocompatible filling material (usually gutta-percha) to prevent future bacterial invasion.
- 05 -
Tooth Restoration
To protect the weakened tooth and restore its full function, the tooth is rebuilt. This is done using a standard dental filling or, more commonly, by placing a custom dental crown to give it long-term strength.
• Preserves your natural teeth: Keeping your natural teeth is always the ideal outcome for long-term oral health.
• Maintains your natural bite structure: Prevents neighboring teeth from shifting out of place, which can cause jaw misalignment.
• Easy maintenance and natural feel: A restored tooth looks, feels, and functions just like your other natural teeth.
• More cost-effective long-term: If the tooth structure is still salvageable, a root canal eliminates the need for more complex and expensive replacements like dental implants or bridges.
Specialist Endodontist Team
Our Specialist Endodontist Team, including experienced dental school faculty members, is dedicated exclusively to root canal treatment. With extensive expertise in managing complex cases, challenging conditions, and previously unsuccessful treatments, we are committed to delivering precise, predictable, and tooth-preserving care.
Advanced Technology for Superior Precision
• Dental Microscope: Provides high-powered magnification and illumination, allowing specialists to locate and treat tiny, hidden, or calcified root canals that are invisible to the naked eye.
• Dental CT Scan (3D Imaging): Delivers a 3-dimensional view of the tooth and surrounding jawbone, essential for diagnosing complex roots and planning accurate treatments.
• Advanced Endodontic Technology: Advanced rotary tools ensure thorough disinfection and cleaning of the canals safely, comfortably, and efficiently.
• Digital X-ray: Offers instant, high-contrast images for precise treatment tracking while minimizing radiation exposure.
Comprehensive "Complete Treatment" Approach for Complex Cases
At SDC Dental Center, we do not just treat the "root canal" in isolation. We provide holistic care (Complete Treatment) through a multidisciplinary collaboration among our team of dental professors across various specialties, including:
• Restorative Dentistry
• Prosthodontics (Crowns, bridges, and dentures)
• Periodontics (Gum disease treatment)
• Dental Implants
This collaborative effort allows us to design the most effective, long-term treatment plan especially for patients facing multiple oral health issues simultaneously.
Ideal for Seniors and Complex Cases
• Elderly patients requiring comprehensive, all-in-one dental care.
• Patients with underlying medical conditions that demand meticulous and cautious treatment planning.
• Complex cases involving cracked teeth, curved root canals, or previously failed treatments (retreatments).
• Cases requiring integrated planning alongside crowns, bridges, or dental implants.
